Steven Ezzes | Chairman of the Board, Managing Director - USA

Steve Ezzes joined studylane as Chairman of the Board, Managing Director - USA in early 2016.

Steve hails from a distinguished career in investment banking in New York with previous roles with Mariner Investment Group, TH Lee among others.

Steve has a long standing connection with Australia including serving as a Board Director of OzEmail with Australia’s current Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull. He was instrumental in OzEmail’s successful initial public offering and listing on the NASDAQ stock exchange in 1996.

Elaine Starkey | Co-founder and CEO

Elaine Starkey merged her publishing business into studylane bringing the high profile industry guide ‘AIETG’ contacts and content into the company. 

Elaine has published many print and eBooks for Austrade and run a successful publishing company. She has won many sales awards over her career including being one of the foundation sales team for Ryanair.

Elaine has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Applied Psychology and a HDE from University College Cork.

Bipul Kafley | Co-founder and CSO

Tapping into his own former needs as an international student, Bipul designed the studylane concept.

Bipul is the driving force behind studylane’s technical operations with a keen understanding of the agents and their role in the education sector.

Bipul has worked extensively in the Information Technology sector with the Queensland Police, Queensland Education, CBA, Virgin, Flight Centre.

He has an IT degree from Central Queensland University, Building Business Model qualification from Stanford University and is currently completing his MBA.

Non-Executive Director

John Worton

John Worton is a seasoned entrepreneur and company director with extensive Australian and International experience in growth companies. A UK qualified chartered accountant and Sandhurst graduate, John’s leadership has been instrumental in the IPO’s of a number of companies in a variety of industries, including OzEmail’s listing in 1996 while serving as the CFO.

John has held C-level positions at various companies. His business career includes roles at Qantas, Opportunity International, BMC Media, Allomak and PKF Chartered Accountants.

John was previously selected as one of five finalists for the national award of the Australian Financial Review/CPA Young Business Achiever of the Year.


James FitzSimons

Jim FitzSimons has dual qualifications in law and computer science and specialises in IT and telecommunications law, outsourcing and systems integration contracts, IP ownership and licensing, e-commerce, acting for users and suppliers of IT&T and related services in the public and private sectors.

Jim is also involved in commercial and corporate law as it applies to intangible assets such as copyright, trade secrets and confidential information, trade practices (consumer protection and anti-trust), trademarks and trade names, and patents.

He also has a portfolio of start-ups with which he is involved and recently helped facilitate a successful exit for the Founders and himself when Logico Operations Group Limited was bought by CTI Logistics.

Bruce Milthorpe

Bruce Milthorpe joined UTS as Dean of Science in November 2008. Previously he was a professor in the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, University of New South Wales. From February 2006 to August 2007, he was the Deputy President (Academic) of UNSW Asia. He was also Head of School of the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, UNSW, from 1998 until April 2006.

Professor Milthorpe has been an advisor to the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia through a sub-committee of the Therapeutic Devices Evaluation Committee and the Therapeutic Goods Committee. He is a director of Insearch Ltd and alternate director for the Sydney Institute for Marine Science. He is a past director of a biomedical instrumentation company.

He has been a member of the international editorial board of Biomaterials, and is now on the editorial board of two new journals in the field. He has published over 100 refereed journal articles and more than 120 conference presentations.
